Isabel Island

Isabel Island is an archipelago of rock formation of volcanic origin located 28 kilometers off the coast of Nayarit in the Mexican Pacific. It is the natural refuge and sanctuary for seabirds, both resident and migratory, providing shelter, food and nesting. Nine species of seabirds breed here, we can find blue-footed boobies, brown pelicans, frigatebirds, brown gulls, beautiful white-tailed gulls, and a unique and invaluable small colony of red-legged booby ducks and even an alvine frigatebird.

It covers a surface area of ??194 hectares with several ecosystems, mangrove lagoon, sandy beach, slope and coastline, housing a wide variety of species such as mollusks, echinoderms, crustaceans, marine mammals, 24 species of rays and sharks, six species of reptiles and 92 birds among others.
The island was declared a national park on December 8, 1980 and in 2003 it was designated as a Ramsar site due to its ecological importance.
